Much-loved restaurant and bar to be brought back to life
Left Handed Giant will be reopening Renato’s and bringing the creator of some of Bristol’s best pizzas to their newest bar and restaurant.
The much-loved King Street bar has not reopened since the pandemic but the storied location is set to be given a new lease of life by LHG, whose own journey started in Small Bar next door.
Fresh from collaborating with LHG at their brewpub in Finzels Reach, Julian Guy from Pizza is Lovely will soon be slinging pizzas out of Renato’s.
is needed now More than ever
The plan is not to change much with Renato’s, whose walls are covered in signed photos of many actors who have trodden the boards at the nearby Bristol Old Vic over the years.
Twenty-inch New York-style pizza slices will be sold from from the bar with Detroit-style pizzas served in the refurbished upstairs restaurant.

Julian – who in a previous life was Bristol24/7’s web developer – began making pizzas as Pizza is Lovely at the Orchard Inn on Spike Island during lockdown, with his rectangular-shaped Detroit-style pizzas cooked in a rectangular tin winning particular acclaim.
He has been serving his vegetarian and vegan pizzas from the Left Handed Giant brewpub since September.
Writing on Instagram, Julian said: “And here it is!… We have the keys!!! Venue 2 is GO! We’ll be slinging MASSIVE 20” New York pizza slices from the bar and EPIC Detroit pizzas upstairs in the beautiful restaurant.
“All meat-free and VERY vegan friendly as always… Let’s make some noise. Who’s excited?”
