New cider bar could open in disused railway arch
A new cider bar could be opening as early as February in a Victorian railway arch in an area of Bristol that is set to see major redevelopment in the coming years.
The Cider Box will open on Fridays and Saturdays as a bar, promising to be “pouring the finest cider from our store, serving great cheese, soundtracked by visiting DJs and bands alongside rotating food vendors, ping pong, blending workshops, talks, tastings and more”.

A licensing application has been submitted to Bristol City Council for unit 5 on Silverthorne Lane in St Philip’s.
The proposed use of the premises is for the distribution and fermentation of cider as well as offering tasting sessions, and the opportunity for customers to purchase cider for consumption both on and off the premises.
The Cider Box is the UK’s largest distributor of craft cider, with warehouses in Shepton Mallet and Hackney, and supplying the likes of the Glastonbury Festival and Fullers.
Bristol’s first Cider Box could become part of a new “vibrant new canal-side community” which is planned to be created in the area centred around Silvethorne Lane, with a 1,600-place secondary school, offices, 400 new homes and student accommodation.
The major regeneration site on the north side of the Feeder Canal is part of the plans for the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, which stretches from Temple Meads to the Paintworks.
