New cocktail bar coming to Small Street

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Apr 3, 2018

Rum, tequila and mezcal will all be on the menu at a new Caribbean-themed cocktail bar opening this month on Small Street.

Faraway Cocktail Club – the sister bar to Flipside on Whiteladies Road – promises to be “a slice of tropical paradise in central Bristol” that will specialise in bowls of sharing punches.

The bar is due to open in the former Big Chill at 15 Small Street, whose early seventeenth century ceiling was infamously destroyed by developers last year.

Planning permission was later refused to transform what was most recently Small Horse bar into student flats.

Faraway is being opened by Andy Dodd, who as well as founding Flipside is the chair of BARBIE, the Bristol Association of Restaurants, Bars & Independent Establishments.

The launch team at Faraway will include Mike Canham, previously of The Rummer; Ashleigh Cillers, with experience at Hyde & Co and The Milk Thistle; and Danny Wilson, formerly of London Cocktail Club and Hawksmoor, who worked with Dodd at Papaji’s, the precursor to Flipside.

Faraway Cocktail Club is due to open at 15 Small Street on Friday, April 13. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/farawaybristol
