New owners for Bristol’s original speakeasy
Back in 2010, Hyde & Co was opened by Nathan Lee, Jason Mead and Kevin Stokes who would later go on to open other bars and restaurants across Bristol and further afield including Milk Thistle, Bambalan and Seven Lucky Gods.
But all good things have to come to an end and at the end of September, the trio will be handing over the keys to Bristol’s original speakeasy to new owners.
And it’s definitely not the end of their story either, with Lee, Mead and Stokes promising “much more to come” from the Hyde & Co Group, named after their first business.

Hyde & Co, whose front door is now on Upper Byron Space just off the Clifton Triangle but was originally accessed down a flight of steps on Berkeley Crescent, was inspired by a trip to New York by Lee.
Visitors still need to ring a doorbell to enter the bar, which over the years has gained a reputation as one of Bristol’s best, with a regularly changing themed cocktail menu.
Lee said that Hyde & Co “will always hold a special place for all of us”.
He said: “It was where our journey first began, it’s opened so many doors for us and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who’s supported us over the years.
“However, all good things have to come to an end, and it’s time for us to hand it on to the next generation.
“We love the fact that the venue will continue to run as a bar, and we’re so excited to see what the new owners have in store for it.
“It’s definitely not goodbye, just see you later from all of us!
“In the meantime this will give us more time to focus on our new projects, with much more to come from the Hyde & Co Group in the coming months, so stay tuned!”
