New owners to close the Old Bookshop

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Sep 10, 2024

The Old Bookshop is closing after 13 years with a number of special events culminating in drinking the bar dry on its final day on Saturday.

But worry not: the bar has new owners who have big things planned for the North Street venue which will undergo a major refurbishment and reopen in mid-October with a new name.

Its new owners are familiar faces from Bedminster too: Emily Penney and Mike Fenlon who own Alpha Bottle Shop & Tap on East Street.

Emily said: “We have been big fans and regulars of the Old Bookshop for many years now and recognise the importance of the space within the community.

“We hope this final week will give everyone a chance to say farewell and celebrate what the pub has meant to them.”

She added: “The Old Bookshop has evolved over time and its offering has changed dramatically since it first opened in 2011.

“We feel it is now time for a fresh start and a new beginning and we can’t wait to bring our ideas to fruition.

“The fundamentals will stay the same of course. We will have a fantastic beer selection, a well thought-out cocktail menu and provide a food offering which is exciting and designed to be eaten with good company.

“Watch this space!”
