New seafood restaurant to open in former waterfront cafe
A new fish & chip shop and seafood restaurant overlooking Cumberland Basin is due to open this spring.
Noah’s is opening in the former waterside cafe institution, Lockside. Previously known as The Venturers Rest and latterly Popeyes Diner, the venue was made famous for being Sid’s Café in BBC sitcom Only Fools & Horses.
The 60-cover restaurant will follow in the footsteps of family-run business, The Scallop Shell in Bath, opened by the Rosser family in 2015, and will be the first standalone venture for the next generation husband-and-wife team.

Daniel and Joie Rosser said they are excited to breathe new life into the building, and bring their knowledge of the fish & chip industry, and experience working at high-end restaurants, to Noah’s, and hope to put their own unique spin on the new eatery.

Noah’s – named after the couple’s baby son – will be “accessible and relaxed”, with the kitchen overseen by Daniel, and Joie looking after the front of house. It will be open six days a week and “will showcase the best of British fish and shellfish sourced from the UK markets alongside the finest local produce”.
The riverside restaurant will also have a daily-changing menu featuring familiar favourites from classic fish and chips, to grilled fish with simple dressings, fruits de mer sharing plates and more.
“We’ve had our sights set on a Bristol location for a while and we’re so excited to bring our fresh fish and seafood concept to this incredible venue with such a long history,” said Daniel.
“As soon as we saw the building and the views out over the water to Clifton Suspension Bridge, we knew it would be perfect.
“It’s a huge investment for us but we’re so pleased with how it’s coming along so far. We don’t want to give too much away but can’t wait for the local community to come and experience it for themselves.”
Noah’s will open in April at 1 Brunel Lock Road, BS1 6XS.
