New secret(ish) whisky bar opens in Clifton

By Esme Barrell  Friday Feb 3, 2017

Bristol has already got sports bars. Now it’s got a sports cave in the form of Shebeen, a secret(ish) Irish whiskey bar accessed through a black wooden door next to Steam – the former Roo Bar next to Clifton Down station.

Opened just in time for the Six Nations, Shebeen has the feel of an Irish country pub crossed with a gentlemen’s club – think bucket chairs, leather stalls and mismatched photo frames.

Owners Kevin Hanley and Richard Hanley present a warm welcome in the bar with a capacity for only 40 people and almost as many whiskies to choose from.

A selection of cold cut foods like fish boards, antipasti, cheeses and scallops will appear on the food menu over the next couple of weeks.

Shebeen opens from midday at the weekend, and from 5pm from Monday to Friday.
