New wine shop sells artisan wines from Portugal

By Karen Johnson  Sunday Feb 2, 2025

A new wine shop is dedicated to bringing quality wine from Portugal to Bristol via sailing ships.

Creative couple and owners of Port O’ Bristol (Xisto Wines), Anton and Lela were motivated by the desire to bring wines in sail cargo ships to Bristol.

While the couple had been trading independently for several years, their shop in Wapping Wharf is their first permanent home.

Set in one of the converted shipping containers, Port O’ Bristol sells wine by the bottle and the glass.

Inside their small shop are carefully chosen wine bottles, with Anton behind the counter happy to share his expert knowledge on wines.

Sharing their story towards opening Port O’ Bristol, the couple said on their website: “Over a glass of incredible wine we found that we shared a belief that the industry can and should be changed – and decided to show how it could be done.

“We created Port O’ Bristol with a vision that importing artisan wines from Portugal by sail cargo ships is possible. Doing so enables people to experience these incredible vintages without impacting the planet.”
