Old Market pub set to be transformed

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Jun 27, 2017

The Punch Bowl on Old Market Street is set to reopen in early July under new owners following what promises to be a dramatic transformation.

The Grade II-listed drinking den has been purchased by Wickwar, whose Bristol pubs include the Cotham Porter Stores, Gloucester Road Ale House and the Jersey Lily.

Due to be renamed The Punch Bowl Ale House when it reopens, the pub will be headed up by general manager Sarah Welsh with head chef Adam Gibson in the kitchen, who both join from The Grace on Gloucester Road.

Wickwar Wessex Brewing & Pub Co. director Mike Flavin said: “This is a very exciting time for our company, as we take our portfolio of pubs up to 10 sites across our South West heartland.

“We are also delighted to be investing in the thriving community of Bristol’s Old Market.”

The Punch Bowl’s transformation follows the recent arrival in Old Market of other food and drink businesses such as cafe and bar No. 25A, Spanish restaurant and bar Barrika, cafe Alex Does Coffee, and gin bar Dutch.
