One B Coffee House to open a second cafe
The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed some changes afoot on Cotham Hill among the pedestrianisation of the street.
1B Pitville has had a subtle rebrand and is now known as One B Coffee House. It has been done ahead of the opening of its sister cafe less than a mile away which is set to continue the special brand of hospitality the original cafe has become known for.
The new One B Coffee House is due to open on Gloucester Road in April just a few doors up from the Prince of Wales pub, in what for many years was Sheesh Mahal restaurant.
is needed now More than ever
For One B operations director Mikey Farrer, opening a second site is the natural next step in a career that has seen him work in hospitality since leaving school.
“I believe that good hospitality is like an art,” said Mikey while drinking an espresso on a recent morning, just a few days after he finally received the keys for 13A Gloucester Road.
“What we try to do at One B is to provide a really good product. We focus on speciality coffee, putting as much care and attention on it as other speciality coffee shops.
“But we come at it from a hospitality point of view. It’s much more accessible to anybody because speciality coffee can sometimes come across as pretentious.
“We wanted to make speciality coffee accessible but One B has since turned into something bigger than that original aim.”

One B Coffee House on Gloucester Road will be following in much the same vein as the original cafe, with coffee roasted by Triple Co only a few hundred metres away in Montpelier.
There will also be sandwiches, cakes and other sweet treats, with Mikey overseeing the new space alongside his business partner, Matt Read.
Mikey, 27, grew up in the town of Flitwick in Bedfordshire and has lived in Bristol for almost six years, recently moving to Montpelier with his partner, Adam.
He worked as a barista at the former Boston Tea Party on Whiteladies Road and at Bristol Beer Factory’s bar at the Arnolfini before what was then 1B Pitville opened in 2021.

“I’m feeling really good right now, I love what I do” said Mikey as he prepared to head back to the new One B.
“Part of the beauty of Bristol is that there are so many different areas that connect together. We want to remain as flexible as possible so we can become part of the area we operate in.
“If One B on Gloucester Road works, we wouldn’t be shy on opening others but it will have to be organic growth.”
