Pub makes ‘hardest ever’ decision to stop serving food

By Maelo Manning  Tuesday Jul 16, 2024

The Gallimaufry has announced that it is putting an end to its renowned food offering so it can “continue to operate as a community and music space”.

The team said they made the decision due to increased costs of service and reduced sales.

“It’s the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make, but it’s the right one to protect the Galli as a whole,” they wrote in an Instagram post.

Known by most as ‘the Galli’, the pub is much-loved for its regular live music events, Sunday roasts and terrace overlooking Gloucester Road.

Its innovative food menu has seen the likes of confit pork belly, a pineapple kimchi and tofu poke bowl and a range of small plates.

In a statement, the team said: “Standing together to celebrate the end of an era and the start of something new.

“Sunday the 28th July will be the last day of in-house food service at the Galli.

“Increased costs & reduced sales have made it increasingly difficult to operate in the way we used to.

“It’s the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make, but it’s the right one to protect the Galli as a whole, and be able to continue to operate as a community & music space.

“Food will return in the future but in a different style of operation.

“Maddie and team have delivered everything we’ve asked of them and more.

“We recognise not just the incredible ethic, creativity & team building.

“She really has been so fundamental to the business these last 7 years as a positive energy that has permeated far beyond the kitchen.

“More on Maddie and brigade in a later post, as well as credit to the many incredible chefs that have cooked here over the last 12 years & our wonderful suppliers.”

The team promised food will return in at some point in the future, “but in a different style of operation”, and the venue will continue to operate as a space for drinks, music and arts.

The Gallimaufry’s last day of in-house food service will be July 28.
