Some of Bristol’s top chefs join forces to help feed the homeless
A Christmas food coalition of local charities, top chefs and community farms will team up to deliver zero waste meals for Bristol’s homeless over the festive period.
Caring in Bristol have teamed up with Josh Eggleton of The Pony and Trap, FareShare South West and The Community Farm to provide a full seven-day menu of three hot restaurant-quality meals a day, plus snacks, from December 23 to 31.
The Caring at Christmas project by Caring in Bristol will have a pop-up shelter project spanning three Bristol venues which will all provide 24-hour support offering shelter, food, clothing, medical and emotional care, housing advice and advocacy.

The shelter food menu spanning seven days has been created by Eggleton who will be onsite managing the kitchen and cooking the meals with his team.
Eggleton has also invited local restaurants to help plan the seven-day menu:
- December 23: Ben Harvey & Dom Borel, Pasta Loco

- December 24: Elliott and Tess Lidstone, Box-E

- December 27: Josh Eggleton
- December 28: Mark Chapman, Bravas
- December 29: Carlos Rivas, Masa & Mezcal
- December 30: Ben Pryor, Poco
- December 31: Matt and Diana Hampshire, Tare
Caring at Christmas served almost 4,000 meals in 2018
Caring in Bristol director Ben Richardson said: “As a charity we think it’s important to collaborate with local businesses and community organisations to provide the best service possible for those in need, and for Bristol to lead the way in how we treat those who are homeless at Christmas.”
Eggleton added: “After a little involvement during the 2018 project, it’s great to be more integrated with the work that Caring in Bristol are doing in 2019.
“I am really looking forward to be working with both the Caring volunteers and the community once again. The work that Caring in Bristol do is amazing, and I am so pleased to be able to link up the Bristol restaurant community with the Caring at Christmas project.”
Over the ten days that the Caring at Christmas 2018 project ran, Caring in Bristol provided day support to an average of 84 people each day, bed spaces for an average of 47 people each night and served 3,902 meals.
