The Bristol restaurant set to open a second site in a prominent Redfield location

By Ellie Pipe  Friday Feb 23, 2024

A restaurant team that already has a loyal following in Staple Hill and beyond has announced plans to open a second site in Redfield.

The new development on the corner of Chalks Road and Church Road, which will include eight one-bedroom flats above a cafe/bar on the ground floor, has been in the works for some years.

Although it is yet to be finished, the people behind The Forge & Fern in Staple Hill have already set their sights on the former post office site in a prominent Redfield location opposite the entrance to St George’s Park.

The Forges bosses, who opened The Forge & Fern in the old Red Lion pub on Broad Street in Staple Hill in the summer of 2022, have announced their new venture will be called the Forge & Fox.

They said they started looking for a new site almost immediately and were intrigued by the long-derelict site on the corner of Chalks Road that is undergoing redevelopment.

“With more research we uncovered more about the site, a former post office, so ready-made as a place to meet,” say the Forges team on their website.

“Many of our team hailed from the area and raved about the St George community, its cultural vibrancy and creativity. We were sold!

“From our time in St George, we already know that you guys are smart, shrewd, and playful just like our mischievous urban friends and, just like our Forge & Fern name, we were keen to acknowledge our past which started on the site on an old Forge whilst embracing the future. We give you, The Forge & Fox.”

There are no details yet as to when the new Forge & Fox will open and, at present, the planned location is still very much a building site but watch this space.
