VHS boxes upcycled to hold vodka and gin

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Nov 21, 2017

A film fan has put her old video boxes to good use by turning them into gift sets for her spirits business.

Sam Espensen of Espensen Spirit still owns hundreds of videos and has combined two of her passions to create gift boxes for Christmas.

“I have been selling them at markets and in our bar over the last few weeks and the reaction has been way beyond what I expected,” said Sam, whose bar Bristol Spirit is on Whitehall Road in Redfield.

Sam said that her customers have enjoyed the nostalgic element of the packaging and often take time to pick a suitable genre for the recipient of the gift box.

The ‘Boozebuster boxes’ contain a pair of 5cl bottles of Espensen Spirit’s vodka (PG Sips pink grapefruit and raspberry, and Ruby Cuby rhubarb and custard) or gin (Pump up the Jam raspberry and Gin Genie blueberry).

Because Sam aims for zero waste for her businesses, turning her old films into gift boxes also means that she is not using excess packaging to post them out.

She is also keeping all the old tapes and turning them into furniture for Bristol Spirit, which might even form a three-piece suite.
