Worldwide student grocery delivery service phenomenon comes to Bristol

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Aug 27, 2019

With more than three million weekly users across the world, a supermarket delivery service could soon be helping to stock the fridges and cupboards of university students across Bristol.

8DOL, which was founded in Nanjing in China in 2013 and launched in the UK in September 2018, wants to open its first Bristol outlet on Chandos Road in Redland.

Already operating in Bournemouth, Southampton and Oxford, the app’s expansion into Bristol is part of a rapid growth plan for the business that serves more than 1000 university towns and cities.

Customers can order more than 500 grocery items from the app. The order comes through to a local warehouse where the items are picked and then delivered within 28 minutes.

The app is currently divided up into ten sections including alcohol, bakery, tobacco and snacking. It’s not just food and drink either, with the beauty & household section including dozens of items including washing up liquid, USB chargers and condoms.

Speaking at 8DOL’s UK launch, head of operations Craig Moore said: “The supermarket delivery sector is growing rapidly with many competitors attracting multi million pound investments, following on from deliveroo’s success in the restaurant / takeaway delivery sector.

“I was instantly drawn to this opportunity and unlike any of our other competitors we hold our own stock so we are price competitive with traditional retail stores. I can’t wait to see where we can take this business.”
