Two friends to host Bristol’s first Georgian supper club
It was while cycling through Georgia that Holly McGowan Hayes first became aware of the unique style of feasting popular in the eastern European country.
“I was really struck by the Georgians’ hospitality,” Holly explained recently. “Wherever we went, we were invited in to people’s homes for impromptu supras in our name.”
Described as the backbone of Georgian social culture, the supra is a feast filled with plenty of food, wine and tradition.
is needed now More than ever
And Holly is now bringing a supra to Bristol at what she and her friend Harriet Wylie believe is the city’s first ever Georgian supper club, Sunday Supra, with the debut event taking place at the Benjamin Perry Boathouse near Redcliffe Wharf on December 16.

The pair promise lots of food, lots of wine, plenty of toasting and polyphonic singing from members of Borjghali, Bristol’s Georgian choir.
“At the supras we attended, we never saw the bottom of our plates,” Holly said. “It seemed like a really great thing to harness the essence of.”
Holly and Harriet – who with her two siblings organises pop-up food and drink events as The Wylie Sisters – have been busy perfecting their Georgian cooking at Harriet’s house in Montpelier.
The meal will feature the likes of dolmas (stuffed cabbage leaves), khachapuri (cheese bread), khinkali (dumplings); all served with red and orange natural wines.
“We have been talking a lot about doing something together,” explained Harriet. “With Bristol twinned with Tbilisi in Georgia, this seemed perfect.
“The event will be quite mad. We want people to be quite shocked by how much food there is.”
Sunday Supra takes place at the Benjamin Perry Boathouse on December 16. Tickets cost £40 per person including all food and wine. To book your seat, visit sundaysupraclub.eventbrite.com
