A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Cock & Tail, Redcliffe
It was soon before 9pm on a recent Thursday night and the glitter ball inside the Cock & Tail acted like a homing beacon to Bristol’s midweek ravers.
The occasion was the Hotwash Easter Rinse Out with DJs playing a multitude of different genres including drum’n’bass, dubstep and jungle until 1am following an open decks call-out.
Described by its owners as “Redcliffe’s renegade cocktail bar”, the Cock & Tail is only open from Thursday to Sunday evenings.
is needed now More than ever
There are special drinks deals for hospitality workers on Sundays, with a pizza pop-up coming soon.

On the walls of the Cock & Tail overlooking Commercial Road and the New Cut is a trippy pattern made up of white, grey and black cubes; while inside there is art on display from ShangrilART – a limited edition art
publishing company from the people behind Glastonbury’s Shangri-La.
Behind the bar currently is a miniature red skeleton wearing a matching cowboy hat above a doll’s head that could have belonged to Sid from Toy Story.
Once a pub next to the former General Hospital, the Cock & Tail is now sandwiched between some of Bristol’s most expensive flats and Francombe House.
From as early as 1870, this was the Velindra, a pub named after a paddle steamer, then becoming the Nook, briefly the Velindra again before the Cock & Tail, where midweek ravers are well catered for.
