A-Z Bristol pub crawl: Industry, Gloucester Road

By Mina Kim  Friday Nov 3, 2023

Warm light spills out from Industry’s large windows, illuminating gloomy Gloucester Road which has been quietened by the changing of the clocks.

It is deceptively large inside, with a roomy lounge full of large tables and seats surrounded by flat screen TVs. It expanded in the summer, taking over Romanian food shop, Bucovina, to create a multi use space that can be booked for events and live sports.

Today, however, there isn’t a game on. An older couple sit in comfortable silence in the beer garden. They are both nursing pints from local Bristol breweries.

He is dressed to battle the biting November winds, with a large fleece lined hat obscuring most of his face, while his partner sits opposite him basking under the heat lamps, face tilted up to soak in the warmth.

She starts to animatedly chat to her friend, punctuating her sentences with gestures of her cigarette, as he continues sitting in silent contentment.

Meanwhile, post-work punters start to filter in, drawn in by the two for £12 cocktails and the temptation of a hearty burger.

They are spoilt for choice with a selection of small plates and different kinds of burgers, including veggie and vegan options.

A golden retriever is sprawled on the floor, jumping up with excitement when people enter.

They coo over the dog and give him belly rubs, laughing as he shakes himself off after.

“Now I smell like wet dog”, one whispers as they say their goodbyes and walk over to the bar to order.
