A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Jolly Roger, Easton
On a recent Saturday afternoon, a group of new visitors to the Jolly Roger in Easton attempted to open the front door to the pub.
But alas, the door didn’t open.
In need of their thirst being quenched, the visitors soon discovered a second door tucked away in the adjacent All Hallows Road which was wide open.
is needed now More than ever
Inside the pub – which has had a notorious reputation in past years – there are wooden floorboards, a beamed ceiling, tables of all shapes and sizes, and chairs scattered around a small room.

Bottles and tins are more popular in the Jolly Roger than beers on tap
With little to offer on tap, bottled and canned beers and ciders are the options here.
And if you fancy something stronger, the kind lady behind the bar will pour you a selection of spirits with a smile.
Just remember to bring cash.
On this recent afternoon, the three visitors were surprisingly served a plate of fried chicken and despite protestations, it was free of charge.

Finger-licking good fried chicken at the Jolly Roger
As the new visitors tucked into their fried chicken, a group of locals chatted while watching Channel 4 News by the bar.
It turns out that the oblivious trio had stumbled into the Jolly Roger ahead of a ‘Nine Night’ celebration.
This is a West Africa and Caribbean tradition similar to a wake that takes place on the ninth night after a person’s death, before the funeral and burial.
The visitors raised their glasses in memory of absent friends and made their way out of the pub through the side entrance, closing the door after them.
