A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Farside, Stokes Croft

By Hannah Massoudi  Thursday Sep 12, 2024

On a recent cold and wet evening, the Farside had the door flung wide open as if to eagerly invite in those weary of the current dreariness.

Its neon lights distinguish this new pub from the many other watering holes nearby.

A single door opens into the spacious interior with high ceilings adding to the enormous feel of the new space, with a central bar having seating areas in front and on either side.

This new pub within the Carriageworks development on Stokes Croft is the latest in Bristol from Left Handed Giant, with hot food here provided by sister venue Hotplate the other side of a central courtyard.

There are stalls to perch upon as you first walk in, tables on either side, and for those looking to collapse into something a little comfier and relaxed, there are sofas tucked in the corner.

Walls are also stamped with cool and colourful graphics and street art, with the LHG team commissioning artists from Long Fox Tattoo including Adam Ruff and Ian Seller, acclaimed graffiti artist Rowdy, as well as illustrator James Yeo, whose designs are familiar from LHG’s cans.

Several of the building’s original Grade II listed features have also been retained such as the metal beams, emerald glazed tiles and the engraved wooden doors which date back to 1900s.

There are a selection of about a dozen beers and ciders to sample, with Farside even having its own namesake pale ale.

For those who don’t fancy something on tap, a cocktail menu is arranged using fridge magnets to spell out its offerings.

And while it might be single figures outside, they do have a frozen cocktail machine serving a choice between a margarita or strawberry daiquiri if you’re looking to hang onto the memory of summer as the nights draw in.
