A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Inn on the Green, Horfield
A warm amber light trickled onto the pavement and the whiff of hops drifted into the cold air in a pub overlooking the wintry abyss of Horfield Common.
On the recent blustery evening, drinks flowed, punters talked freely and couples canoodled inside The Inn on the Green, where wooden beams lined the walls and beer barrels dotted around leather seated booths.
At least half a dozen bustling young staff worked on pouring pints and making gin and tonics for the busy pub behind a broad counter.
is needed now More than ever
The place had a proper a community feel, with a meat raffle on Sunday and bar billiard and table tennis outside ready for boozy competition.
‘Nicotinarium and Centre Court,’ chalk letters read above it, as determined smokers huddled round their pints in defiance to the the rapidly falling temperatures.

‘Nicotinarium and Centre Court’
One of the larger beer gardens in our city – made up of umbrella-shaded picnic tables and lined by astroturf and fairy lights – the pub opened less than a decade ago.
Inside, a woman in a stilettos gazed opposite to her date amid lit candles; a waitress delivered a steaming white and dark chocolate brownie but it was instantly forgotten.
Alongside the couple in their forties, tables were filled with grizzled drinkers, shirted young professionals and construction workers.

The pub runs a free fortnightly comedy night every other Saturday, promising to be “an absolute corker of a show”
A reassuringly dependable list of tipples was available at this watering hole, from North Street Cider and Old Rosie to Fortitude, as well as gins, wine, spirits and shots.
Their food menu was seemingly classic and popular too, with diners tucking into rump steak with chips, roast tomato, salad and peppercorn sauce (£19.95), spinach, leek and walnut filo parcel (£14.95) and a selection of filled ciabattas (£9.95).
“We strongly believe that good company, tasty food and a smattering of booze can fix almost anything,” the business’ website writes.
As head colds and winter nihilism rear their dreaded heads, it did seem they were right, as the cosy Inn on the Green was place for punters to forget the November blues.
