Pub of the Week: The Wellington
There is what looks like a copy of the periodic table on one wall of The Wellington in pretty pastel shades; nothing like the ugly ones of school days.
On closer inspection, however, the chemical elements have been replaced by lagers, ales, stouts, bitters and the like.
“Ah yes, actually we call that the beeriodic table,” a member of staff told an inquisitive customer on a recent afternoon.
is needed now More than ever
This Bath Ales-owned pub on the corner of Horfield Common has ten ensuite bedrooms upstairs; and a popular kitchen which sees pie night on Tuesday, ‘Taste of the East’ on Wednesday, steak and wine night on Thursday, fish and chips on Friday, and a Sunday roast.
Quirky decorations abound inside, with one wall covered in shelves of books; and mismatched chairs and low hanging lights contrasting a crisp, bright grey and cream decor.
A bustling crowd on this Wednesday afternoon ranges from groups of grey-haired men to freelancers typing on their laptops in one corner, with a few hardy souls braving Storm Gareth outside on the patio.
The busiest it gets here is when Bristol Rovers are playing at the Memorial Stadium only a few hundred yards away.
It’s also bound to get busy at the just-announced return of Wellyfest on June 8 and 9, promising live music, good food and lots of beer.
