Pub of the Week: The Knights Templar
In case you get to Temple Meads over the Easter weekend hoping to catch a train and then realise that the station is closed, there is always the familiarity of a Wetherspoons close by in which to drown your sorrows cheaply.
At The Knights Templar, a pint of 3 Bolt Pale Ale (originally made by the Green Beacon Brewing Co. in Brisbane but here brewed especially for Wetherspoons by Wadworth in Devizes) costs just £2.79. You’d be lucky to get a third for that price in some of the pubs on King Street.
Watford-based JD Wetherspoon pride themselves on their well-kept beers, which they can sell cheap because they buy cheap in huge volumes to serve in their pubs up and down the UK, many of which the much-missed Bristol DJ Derek made it his hobby to visit.
is needed now More than ever
On a recent Wednesday night, however, five of the 10 cask ales were unavailable. Among the keg beers is now Punk IPA from Brewdog and Hop House 13.

What’s the time, Mr Wolf?
“See you tomorrow,” shouted an office worker to his colleague soon after 10.30pm as he ran out of the door to catch his train home.
It’s impossible to miss what the time is here, with a clock some eight feet in diameter displaying the time above the bar.
Below this clock are more ciders and beers – including a selection from Brewdog – in the fridge, next to shelves full of vodkas, gins and whiskies.
And at the far right of the bar are a Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, rosé and merlot from Cloudwater Creek on tap.
Go on, treat yourself. It’s Easter and you’ve missed your train.
