Better Food opens fourth Bristol shop
Phil Haughton started Better Food in his back kitchen almost 40 years ago and has grown it ever since, moving firstly into a warehouse in Cotham and a larger one in St Werburgh’s.
“It’s been quite a journey,” Phil tells the Bristol24/7 Behind the Headlines podcast, sipping a herbal tea in the cafe area of the newest Better Food shop to open on Gloucester Road.
“The underlying aim has always been a passion for food justice. I could see that the food system was not working well for anybody, it was not serving our needs.”
is needed now More than ever
Phil says that his passion is reconnecting people with where their food has come from, what is known today as plot to plate.
“Bristol is kind of on the vanguard as a city of embracing change and celebrating change, and where we come into things like that is about conviviality, around respect and justice for our farmers and for our soils, and for our citizens.”
