New sandwich shop and deli opens

By Emron Carvalho  Thursday Aug 24, 2023

A new sandwich shop has opened in Cotham.

Badger & Squirrel, which is also a deli, offers sandwiches, salads and baked goods.

Located on Cotham Road where Sandwich Sandwich once was, South African owner Sean Eyberg has completely refurbished the unit, putting his own spin on the space.

“The whole place is homemade, the walls, the food, everything,” Sean said.

As well as building the deli “from the ground up”, Sean also used locally sourced produce and aims to keep his prices low.

“I have core sandwiches we will be making every day, but we will be constantly changing our menu depending on what we can get. We’re trying to stick with local (produce) as much as we can.” Sean said.

“Coming from a chef’s background, we just want to make really good food that’s well priced.”

Sean has been a chef for more than 30 years now, and has finally made the dream move of opening his own eatery.

“We’ve worked for and learnt from a lot of different people running similar things and bigger things but we decided to go off and start our own thing now,” Sean added.
