Popular grocery store seeks new Bristol home

By Zaki Dogliani  Friday Jun 26, 2015

Plenty, a recent addition to St Nicholas Street in the Old City, is relocating, with Friday, June 26 its last day of trading in its current home.

“We have to look for somewhere that’s available and is pretty special,” says owner Lucy Wishart (below). “We could do with a little bit of storage. We could do with something slightly bigger as well.

Plenty has been open since February on a month-by-month temporary lease.

“The shop itself has been going really well,” Lucy adds. “We’ve had some amazing customers who have been massively supportive, so it’s been great. The lease was coming to an end so what we’re gonna do is over the summer months look for something which is a little more suitable. We’ll be updating people via the website, Twitter and Facebook.

“Hopefully [the new location] will be in the city centre; that’s the aim. But we’re also open to other areas as well that might be in need of a fantastic little store like this one.”

Lucy told Bristol24/7 in March that her future plans included a Plenty butchers in Redfield.

According to Lucy, “the focus for Plenty is good quality food at a good price. We need more stores like this so that everyone can start to explore the huge range of choice they have in the food that they can eat.”

The shop has also always prioritised stocking local producers.

“The word local is quite interesting because it has different connotations for different people. Some feel local is being grown in the area where it’s sold.

“Obviously with items that come from further afield, like cocoa and coffee, we don’t grow them in this country, so the next best thing is that the importer or wholesaler that brings them is actually local, and that benefits the local economy as well. There is a selection of local food producers that we have in the shop.”
