Caesar’s

By Martin Booth  Thursday Oct 2, 2014

It’s all about the churros at Caesar’s on Welsh Back, long, thick, fried-dough pastry from Spain, perfect eaten as a snack with thick dipping chocolate. The churros here are served with toffee sauce as standard, but I wholeheartedly recommend the chocolate accompaniment.

It’s almost against the laws of nature not to have ‘chocolate con churros’, but please be careful not to spill all the chocolate down your jacket, as I once did when I lived in Spain.

Jackets are certainly not needed in Bristol at the moment, however, and Caesar’s, between Glass Boat and Spy Glass, must be praising this burst of autumnal sunshine.

Being outside, warm weather acts as a magnet for this unusual cafe which has a few benches overlooking the Floating Harbour, and a godsend after the dismal summer we have had. As the days get colder, Caesar’s will shut during the week, but they may still be open at weekends.

It’s not just churros here. Pretend it’s still the summer with their Callestick Farm Cornish dairy ice cream; try a donut in a choice of three flavours, plain, cinnamon and vanilla; or stick to a coffee.

Once a cafe, then an ice cream shop, this little shack was empty for several years until being transformed into Caesar’s a couple of years ago. Try the best churros in Bristol while the sun is still shining.

Caesar’s, Welsh Back, Bristol.
