Bristol Pride named ‘Pride Organisation of the Year’
Bristol Pride has been named ‘Pride Organisation of the Year’ at a national awards ceremony aimed at championing “the extraordinary efforts made to better LGBTQ lives”.
2023’s pride celebrations in Bristol saw a record 25,000 people come together for a march from Castle Park to Millennium Square in a day of colour, joy and protest.
A spokesperson for the Gaydio Pride Awards said: “Bristol Pride continues to be a unique and important event that celebrates the LGBT+ community and offers the chance to connect people in the community and beyond.”

The ethos of Bristol Pride includes “championing equality and diversity” and “working year-round to challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia”.
In 2023, pride celebrations ran for two weeks before the march and an afternoon of festivities on the Downs on July 23 including poetry evenings, a circus night and an LGBT+ history boat tour.
On the Downs, the lineup of more than 100 acts featured Jake Shears, Natalie Imbruglia, Nadine Coyle and esteemed Bristol ballroom and drag acts.

Led by director Daryn Carter, Bristol Pride was one of 12 awardees at the event run by LGBTQ+ radio station Gaydio in Manchester on Friday.
Other winners included Strictly Star and actor Layton Williams, who was awarded the ‘Outstanding Entertainment Contribution Award’ and Lady Phyll, CEO of UK Black Pride, who won the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.
The ‘Music Artist of the Year’ award went to BRIT award winner Becky Hill.
Speaking about the awards, Gaydio director Ian Wallace said: “Last night marked the Gaydio Pride Awards 2024 with Hilton, an evening dedicated to recognising and showcasing the incredible achievements of the LGBTQ+ community across the country.
“We were thrilled to celebrate all of the amazing nominees and winners who have made a huge impact on LGBTQ+ lives throughout this year and beyond! We can’t wait to do it all over again next year.”
