An alternative workout class is set to open Pride Month’s lineup of celebrations in Bristol.

Daryn Carter, the director of Bristol Pride, said he was excited to welcome the activity to the Pride Month celebrations, and highlighted the important role that Drag Queens have played in the Pride movement historically.
Drag Queen Workout will be hosted by Drag Queen artists Miss Venus Wailer and UGLY, professional artists who have performed internationally.
Venus and UGLY are accustomed to Bristol’s arts scene, as regular performers at Bristol’s annual festival, Love Saves the Day.
They said the Drag Queen workout would highlight their commitment to inclusivity through performing with Shade Cartel, a dance collective that aims to spotlight performers of colour.
According to Venus, the workout class will encourage participants to “strike a pose, learn to stretch like a queen, and laugh your way into the morning”.
Ugly added that having a platform like Drag Queen Workout “helps to reinforce the message that you have every right to be unashamedly yourself, whatever that is for you”.
Drag Queen Workout was first introduced to Bristol in November 2023 by events company Hamlin & Hive.
Samantha Hamlin, founder of Hamlin & Hive said the class aimed to create an “environment that is fully inclusive, oozing with fun, and completely obliterating the norms of a traditional workout class”.
Drag Queen Workout takes place on June 1 from 10am to 12pm. Tickets for the event are available at www.eventbrite.co.uk.
