By David Pratt  Tuesday Sep 3, 2019

“We’re very excited but it still hasn’t really sunk in that much,” says general manager of The Crafty Hen, Rachel Richards

The Crafty Hen recently won Best Hen Do Activity 2019 at the National Wedding Awards.

Started in 2012 Julie Roberts, The Crafty Hen is an independent company in Easton that runs hands-on craft events and workshops.

Taught by professionals, guests can learn how to create items including fascinators and flower crowns and they often tailer their workshops for hen parties.

Julie and Rachel are excited to have won the award

“We run craft workshops and experiences for all types of events, a lot of hen parties, baby showers but also corporate events, team building sessions and in store experiences,” says Rachel.

Company director Julie Roberts adds: “It’s just nice someone from the outside acknowledges it, I suppose it’s a nice pat on the back.”

The National Wedding Awards, in which The Crafty Hen won Best Hen Do, give recognition across the UK to wedding industry professionals. A competitive contest, they have awards in categories including floristry, stylists and venues.

Why is The Crafty Hen so popular? “I think we just provide a really good friendly service,” says Rachel. “People can ask us anything and we tailor things to their requests, it’s quite a personal service.

“Especially with the hen party market, everyone wants theirs to be perfect and special for the bride. We do small things, like we will tailor the colour of the materials to match the wedding colours.”

The Crafty Hen is are also very inclusive of all types of skills. “On the day you have people who come who get quite nervous because they haven’t done any crafts since school,” Rachel adds.

“Then they come away with a fascinator they can wear to the wedding. In a small space of time we can change someone’s attitudes about what they can actually achieve.”
