10 of Bristol’s best sledging spots
Here at Bristol24/7 we don’t like to jump on the weather bandwagon but it could definitely, maybe, possibly snow this week so here we go with our best sledging suggestions in Bristol.
1. Brandon Hill
Steep and scenic, Brandon Hill is perfect for a smooth snowy descent with banks to boot for a flying start. Plus, it’s conveniently located right by Park Street with its cheery array of cafes for when you can no longer feel your toes and need to head in for a warming brew.

2. St Andrew’s Park
Or, opt to join the hordes of children at St Andrew’s Park, a family favourite that has plenty of room for all – well, just about – and nice gentle slopes making it an ideal option for younger and more cautious sledders.
3. Ashley Down hill
If you like some twists and turns, try Ashley Down hill for a veritable roller coaster ride through north Bristol, with the promise of a swift pint never far away – after all, you’ll have earned it.
4. Victoria Park
Victoria Park is a neighbourhood favourite that peaks in popularity at the first hint of snow – for good reason with its vast array of spacious, lengthy slopes and vertical banks. Just keep an eye out for trees on the way down to avoid a painful crash landing.
5. Stoke Park
Wide, steep and long, you can’t beat the slopes by the Dower House (the yellow house) at Stoke Park. Okay, so a view of the M32 is perhaps not the most scenic of sights, but the ride will more than make up for it.
6. Marlborough Hill
If you’ve got a death wish, give Marlborough Hill in Kingsdown a try, there’s nothing like a spot of adrenaline to warm the cockles – and should things not quite go according to plan, there’s a hospital conveniently located next door.
7. Redland Green
Tucked away in the well-heeled suburb north Bristol suburb, Redland Green is easily accessible by foot, car or bike and is the perfect sledging spot for children – with the added bonus of play equipment on site.
8. Troopers Hill
Usually a wildlife haven with stunning views over the River Avon, Troopers Hill transforms into a winter wonderland with a spot of snow and is fair game for adrenaline junkies and adventurous first-time sledders alike.
9. Arnos Court Park
Those prepared to take a trip out on the Bath Road will be well rewarded with the spacious joys of the Arnos Court Park, nestled away just off the main road, the park offers a steep descent, widening out for a soft, gentle landing.
10. Arnos Vale Cemetery
After all the excitement of the slopes, why not pop over to the historic Arnos Vale Cemetery next door and take a wander through the winter woodland walks.
There’s one thing you can say about Bristol – there’s certainly no shortage of hills. Now, about that snow…
