St Werburgh’s City Farm opens its green spaces to the public for free

By Flossie Palmer  Friday May 27, 2022

St Werburgh’s City Farm is opening its doors to the public in a series of Super Saturdays over the coming months.

On Saturday, Boiling Wells will be open for all to enjoy, even offering free activities on the day hosted by St Werburgh’s Community Centre, Children’s Scrapstore and St Werburgh’s City Farm.

From 12pm to 3pm, Boiling Wells Woodland, Food Forest and Conservation site will open its gates for adults and children alike to enjoy its green space as part of St Werburgh’s City Farm’s belief that nature is essential for improving mental wellbeing.

The site boasts 2.5 acres of woodland with a wooden amphitheatre nestled within it.

Children aged three to six years old can also get involved in free dance classes in the morning, while primary school children can engage in arts and crafts at the children’s ‘scrapstore’ in the afternoon.

Super Saturdays is part of St Werburgh’s City Farm’s Equity Project, which aims to make its sites more accessible to the public, amongst other goals.

Since then, they have opened a bee garden and picnic area, and have increased public knowledge of their community garden, which is open all hours, 365 days a year.

St Werburgh’s City Farm also hosts outdoor activities for vulnerable children and adults throughout the week.

On weekends, the site is available for green woodland weddings and private events, all of which help to fund vital community projects and services delivered by St Werburgh’s City Farm.

Further Super Saturdays, in which Boiling Wells will again be open for public access, will take place on July 23 and September 24.
