Are you one of Bristol’s famous Children of the 90s?
The current Children of the 90s clinic is changing what we know about health and wellbeing – and nearly 8,000 people from Bristol, Weston and across the south west have taken part so far. But hundreds more are still needed to meet the study’s targets.
Researchers are now calling on participants to “do something amazing” by booking their @30 clinic visit. This clinic must end in July, so now is the last chance for eligible participants to take part.
Freddie Draper, above, is a participant who recently attended the @30 clinic. “It’s great that the Children of the 90s study can tell us more about liver disease and other health conditions. Honestly, it’s the main reason why I keep taking part, as well as the fact that after my clinic for certain measures they let me know if they find anything concerning.“
is needed now More than ever
A further 400 participants are still needed before July to reach the study’s target, says Professor Nic Timpson who leads the study. “Children of the 90s has been going for over 30 years and there’s so much more to learn about health. We’ve come this far, let’s keep it going!”
The @30 clinic involves a 2.5 hour visit with a series of health tests and measures. It is hoped it will lead to new discoveries about obesity, liver and heart health and far more. Every participant who attends receives £40 as a thank you. Shorter one hour appointments are now available – either in Bristol or in the participants’ home or even online.
The world-renowned Children of the 90s study began in the early nineties when all pregnant women living in the Bristol, Weston and South Gloucestershire areas were invited to take part. Over three quarters of the women signed up and the health of those 14,500 babies has been followed throughout their lives. Now in their 30s, thousands of ‘Children of the 90s’ (and their families) continue to take part and the study data has led to lots of health discoveries.
32-year old Tom visited the @30 clinic recently and filmed his appointment – see Tom’s @30 visit.
Although it’s not a health check, participants and their GP are informed if specific results are different to normal, so further investigation is possible.
