Spin Bar becomes latest business to open at Harbour Inlet

By Martin Booth  Monday Nov 27, 2017

Several Bristol cafes have bicycles on their walls, but none have quite so many bikes as The Spin Bar.

In a corner of the Harbour Inlet opposite the SS Great Britain, The Spin Bar’s unique selling point is more than a dozen bikes that you can take part in a spin class on before enjoying the food and drink on offer in the cafe.

The Spin Bar co-owner Gavin Brown is an experienced fitness instructor who has opened this business with his childhood friend Steve Bye.

“I have always wanted to open a spin studio,” said Gavin. “It’s a great workout, both one of the easiest and one of the hardest, and a very social exercise.”

Gavin and Steve hope that The Spin Bar can be more than just a gym and more than just a cafe, with the pair wanting to attract both local residents and local office workers.

Spin classes cost £10 and can be booked via an app.

Among the food and drink selections are smoothies, bagels, salads and ciabattas, with customers also able to order food from next door Spoke & Stringer and eat it in The Spin Bar.

“It’s like theatre,” Steve explained talking about when a spin class takes place. “It’s like seeing a chef in the kitchen. Most people do enjoy seeing the different stuff going on.”
