Shed for rent in Redland

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday Apr 7, 2021

When is a shed not a shed?

When it is a newly rebuilt, luxury “Scandinavian style” studio apartment costing £895 per month.

Located in Redland, five minutes from Whiteladies Road, the apartment has received widespread criticism on social media.

Some have questioned the legality of the property, which is being let by Bristol Digs, as the studio appears to be in a residential garden.

“‘Scandinavian style’ it looks like it’s marketed at students as well?!”, said one individual on Twitter.

Bristol Digs is known for letting properties to students and young professionals, a sign that “wherever the young are that’s where the exploitation goes”, according to one Twitter user.

While the property is furnished, there is no parking and internet costs extra. Although the advert says bills are included, a note at the end of the property description says, “NB As well as paying the rent, you may also be required to make permitted payments relating to utilities/costs”.

The lease runs from the start of the next university year through to August 2022.

“Take a look at what the short-term rental market looks like,” says a Twitter user. “A flat in the centre on Airbnb / booking.com / through a local agent for over £200 a night. These prices are all nuts!”

Others described the rental as “outrageous”, “bleak”, “unbelievable” and “a joke”.

However, one Twitter user said that it’s just a sign of the current rental market in Bristol, which, in some areas, is almost as expensive as rental prices in London: “It’s priced this way because the market will bite it.

“There’s no use criticising what’s accepted by willing customers.”

When asked for a comment by Bristol24/7, Bristol Digs responded saying: “Thank you for your interest in this property, I can confirm it is now let.”
