New boutique hotel to open overlooking Castle Park
A new boutique hotel is set to open on a site formerly occupied by squatters.
The Mary Le Port Hotel will open on 39/40 High Street, adjoining St Nick’s Market, after the building has remained empty for nearly ten years.
The site in the Old City, currently owned by Bristol City Council, was originally the main entrance to the Rummer and was most recently used as an arts venue called The Looking Glass.

The team behind Mugshot, The Library and Asian BBQ & Hotpot on St Nicholas Street, have signed a 25-year lease with the council to transform the building overlooking Castle Park into a boutique hotel.
Full details of the new hotel are yet to be finalised, but the hotel’s website says it will offer nine “opulent boutique hotel rooms” in a “beautifully restored building”.

Plans for a private rooftop room with 360-degree views and a hot tub are also in the works.
As part of conservation efforts, the Mugshot Restaurants team hope to restore a number of the building’s original features, including parquet and Terrazzo flooring, and an original 1930s lift.
The hotel’s Instagram page also offers a glimpse of the building’s current state, including a disused bar, graffiti covered walls, and ornate staircases.
