Award-winning interior designer to open new studio

By Milan Perera  Tuesday Aug 13, 2024

In early August, Zoë Hewett’s dream came true when she received the keys to 196 Gloucester Road.

The award-winning interior designer, and founder of the artisan Stylemongers of Bristol studio, launched a crowdfunder back in June to raise funds for the new space.

Having met her goal, she will now move Stylemongers of Bristol out of a co-working space in Spike Island and onto Gloucester Road.

She will transform the former Paper Plane shop into a “lively hub for all things interior design”.

The large space – which she will convert into a shop and studio – will allow for client meetings, studio work and design events all under one roof.

On the new venture, Zoë said: “It’s impossible to predict what will work best. So, I’m glad I’m not relying on one thing. I want to encourage people away from trends and fast fashion in interiors and towards high quality and vintage items that last.”

Zoë continued: “There’s an idea that ‘sustainable’ interiors have to look like Hobbit homes and I want to change that myth, because it’s how things are made that matters – there’s no need to compromise on style.

“With the workshops, I want people…to reconnect with their creativity and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of that in the process.”

Zoë will sell furniture, fabrics, cushions and wallpapers from 196 Gloucester Road, with a focus on brands that are B-Corp registered or trying to improve and communicate their sustainability efforts.

Her new shop/studio will also host interior design workshops for individuals and wellbeing through creativity workshops for corporate teams.

With plans to open in September, she has already scheduled the first series of workshops for October 5 and 6.

Before switching to interiors Zoë worked as a set and costume designer for stage and screen. She also appeared as an interior designer on series two of BBC Two’s My Unique B&B.
