The owners of an independent design and homewares store in Clifton have announced they will be shutting up shop due to “an extremely challenging year.”

Husband and wife, Chris and Becca, announced they would be closing Truce on Princess Victoria Street from Sunday, with the business moving online, three years after they opened the site.

The couple said they had receive an offer by another business to take over the site, and emphasised the difficulties of running a small business, especially at a time when many are facing rising costs.

On Instagram, Becca and Chris said: “Chris and I want to let you all know that we have decided to hand the Clifton shop space over to a new tenant from the end of October.

“It has been an extremely challenging year after what were already difficult times to navigate as a small business and an offer came along that made us weigh everything up.”

“It has not been an easy decision, especially after seven years of having physical shop(s) but the world is a very different place, at least for now.

“We have decided to shift our focus to continue Truce as an online-only store and give ourselves time to pursue other avenues.

“We will remain open in the physical shop until Sunday, October 22 so you’ve got a couple of weekends to pop by in person and say farewell for now.

“There will be sale pieces, big ex-display items available plus some shop fittings that other store owners might be interested in.”

Becca and Chris closed off their message by expressing gratitude to their customers and encouraging people to support local businesses: “We both want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for helping us build our dream business.

“Despite all the hurdles, we are trying to remind ourselves to have no regrets. Alongside running things online, we hope to come back in some physical capacity in the future.

“Chatting to you as customers, getting to know you (many becoming friends), your families and finding you the perfect purchase were all a huge part of why we opened Truce – to give a more personal experience.

“Please keep supporting your favourite small businesses if you’re in a position to.”

Hundreds of users left comments under the post expressing their condolences and support. One user wrote: “So sorry to hear this guys. So so sad to lose another beautiful independent.”

Truce will continue to provide homeware, accessories, and menswear on their online store.
