St Peter’s Hospice to open new ‘superstore’

By Martin Booth  Monday Jan 8, 2024

A “new concept” superstore from St Peter’s Hospice is due to open in February.

Two-thirds of the shop at the top of Jacob’s Wells Road will be made up of donated, new and upcycled furniture.

There will also be clothes and other items shoppers will be familiar with from the hospice’s other shops across Bristol.

The superstore will be located on the ground floor of the West End car park in the former Bathstore.

The other unit on the ground floor of the car park in Clifton was due to open in 2020 as Rhubarb play cafe but a problem with the building’s concrete meant that the interior furnishings had to be ripped out before the business could even open, and the space remains empty and unused.

St Peter’s Hospice retail director, John Broomhead, said: “This is our first new concept Superstore that will sell a fantastic range of donated and new furniture, homeware, small electricals and clothing.

“We’ll be able to offer our house clearance, furniture collection and delivery services as well as having a donation station within the store.

“We believe this will provide a really exciting shopping experience with quality sustainable product at great prices that our local supporters will love.

“With the Hospice’s costs continually rising it’s important for us to identify new ways of raising money.

“All the profits generated from this store will go towards supporting the Hospice, offering important end of life care to all communities in Bristol.”
