‘The thrill of the chase’
Until a few months ago, Dustbowl Vintage was tucked away up a flight of stairs on Park Street.
Despite doing well online, owners Holly and Colin Butterworth decided that it was time to take their chances on opening up a bigger store in the desirable Clifton Arcade. So far, it seems to be paying off.
Holly says: “It’s a lovely little community here in Clifton arcade, it’s a nice way to bring everyone together”.
Dustbowl Vintage specialise in mid-century men’s clothing and accessories – a fairly niche market.
There is a tremendous amount of effort that goes into finding each individual item. “We want to go that extra mile,” says Holly. “My job, really, is finding the items. We travel to America, France and all around the UK.”
Holly continues: “It’s the thrill of the chase, it’s that possibility that there might be something amazing at the bottom of somebody’s attic.”
While the women’s vintage market has exploded, vintage menswear shops tend to be few and far between. We asked Holly why Dustbowl Vintage choose to stick to menswear:
“Men aren’t really catered for very well, they are quite often overlooked. And also, a lot of the smaller items women can wear too, so it’s kind of unisex!”
Take a visit to the beautiful Clifton Arcade and check out Dustbowl Vintage, Holly is happy to help and eager to share her passion for everything she has in store – and if you’re lucky you might get a cuddle from her whippet, Wiggy!
