Bristol hotel named best in the South West

By Martin Booth  Monday Dec 5, 2022

A hotel in St Paul’s has been named the best hotel in the South West.

Artist Residence on Portland Square has been honoured by the Sunday Times in their annual Best Places to Stay roundup.

The hotel opened at the end of 2021within a Grade I listed building which was previously a Georgian townhouse and boot factory, with 22 rooms, a bar and restaurant, and a basement event space.

Artist Residence’s entry in the Sunday Times reads: “The fifth opening in the expanding portfolio of Artist Residence hotels, this is the perfect city-break hotel for the young and the young at heart.

“Your home is a converted boot factory in one of Bristol’s up-and-coming districts, St Paul’s, close to the city’s celebrated bars and restaurants.

“The smart bar-restaurant inside is all exposed brick with oversized artwork and plush banquettes.

“The highlights of Bristol, including the happening Harbourside and gritty Stokes Croft, are just a few minutes’ walk away.”

The Sunday Times has got half of its Bristol geography correct, with Stokes Croft a short stroll from the hotel; but the Floating Harbour is a bit more of a meander from St Paul’s than a few minutes.
