First glimpse inside world’s first treehouse on a crane

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday May 30, 2017

We’ve seen it take shape outside the M Shed over the last few weeks, and now finally here is the first look inside the world’s first treehouse built on top of a crane.

Canopy & Stars at Crane 29 opens to paying guests for the first time this week, with only 100 nights available to those winning tickets in a ballot.

Guests can expect to breathe in woodland scents, fall asleep to the sounds of a gurgling stream and wake to birdsong.

The treehouse was built by treehouse specialists Bower House Construction using materials inspired by Bristol’s industrial heritage as well as the natural world.

Materials supplied by B&Q include a polished concrete worktop, taps created from copper piping, wooden flooring in the bathroom, wool rugs and natural jute mats.

Bespoke creations include a handmade wooden bed, a branch coat hanger, a ‘living painting’ by Anthony Garratt, a wall clad in slices cut from a tree branch and a corrugated iron shower cubicle with a watering can shower.

One wall is lined with shelves of living plants and the roof has planters filled with pollinators to attract bees, birds and butterflies.

Canopy & Stars managing director Tom Dixon said: “It’s taken three years of planning and design, only three weeks of building but we got there.

“What started as a dream has now become a reality and the door of Canopy & Stars at Crane 29 is now open.

“We hope people enjoy their stays in this amazing building and wake up to the great outdoors feeling they are truly part of this pocket of nature in the city – a real natural high.”

To register for the ballot to stay in the treehouse, visit www.canopyandstars.co.uk/crane29. A night’s stay costs either £185 for a weekday or £250 for a weekend, with the final ballot open until July 3. All profits from Canopy & Stars at Crane 29 will go to Friends of the Earth.
