Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2024, day 21: The Julian Trust
The Julian Trust is a charity that provides crucial services for those experiencing homelessness or sleeping rough.
Based in St Paul’s, they operate mainly as a night shelter, with additional resources to offer a hot meal, showers and clean clothes.

They offer 12 beds that are filled through a referral system that is initiated by the St Mungo’s Outreach Team and decided on a weekly basis.

Occasionally if nominated guest does not turn up and they then have a spare, the Shift Supervisor can offer any spare bed to a guest at closing time for that night only.
Sandwiches and any surplus hot food at the end of the shift are available for guests to takeaway.
The charity works closely with other shelter providers in Bristol through the Shelter Programme Steering Group to ensure they can assign safe shelter to as many people as possible.
They work with several including St Mungo’s, Caring in Bristol who run the Caring at Christmas Project at the Trinity Centre, providing food, services and entertainment in the Christmas period.
There is also a women-only shelter called In-Hope Ministries that guests can be signposted to.

The Julian Trust started life in 1986 when a small group of concerned individuals, including founder Meg Grimes, felt there was a need to do something for those who were sleeping on the city streets of Bristol in doorways, derelict buildings, cemeteries, and car-park stairwells to name just a few of the uncomfortable and unsafe locations.
Open during the week between 8.00pm and 9.30pm, except on Thursday, all services are free to guests.
