Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2024, day 6: OSCAR Bristol
The mission of OSCAR Bristol is to help to improve the quality of health and wellbeing for individuals and families living with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.
The Easton-based charity – an acronym for the Organisation for Sickle Cell Anaemia Research – was founded in 1984 by Owen Henry, with help from the West Indian Parents and Friends Association.
Henry is remembered among the Seven Saints of St Paul’s murals with the charity’s 40th anniversary celebrated in September with a black tie event in the Marriott hotel on College Green.
is needed now More than ever
As the only Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Bristol and the South West, OSCAR plays a crucial role in providing effective services for those affected by genetic blood disorders.
The team say: “Here at OSCAR Bristol we are committed to delivering a quality of service that does not vary in quality on account of gender, ethnicity, religion, geographic location or socio-economic status and our vision is to always promote and advance initiatives that focus on those affected by Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.”
