Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2024, Day 7: Bristol Dog Action Welfare Group
Several breeds of dogs are not shown as much love and are shunned away, through no fault of their own. But then there are charities like Bristol Dog Action Welfare Group (BDAWG) that pick up the torch and become the guiding light for these lesser-loved breeds.
A registered Greyhound and Lurcher charity, BDAWG has rehomed countless Greyhounds and Sighthounds since they began operating in 2010.
The charity takes in dogs from across the world, and its team cares for them before they find their forever homes.
is needed now More than ever
One of the charity’s five trustees, while talking about Sighthounds said: “If there’s room on the floor, there’s room for one more.”

According to the charity, having one of these dogs would mean sooner or later coming back for another one.
Registered to an address in Bradley Stoke, they are the chosen charity for pet retailers Pets At Home’s Bradley Stoke and Emersons Green outlets.
The charity is dedicated to saving Sighthounds across the globe: “We take sighthounds from all over the country including Ireland (where there are huge welfare problems), many of which come from Trainers, other Rescue Centres and Council Pounds.
“We also work with the Dog Wardens to help with strays in the local area.
“Sighthounds make fantastic pets and are very addictive.”
To keep up with rising veterinary bills and other maintenance costs, the charity also runs fundraisers all year round.

Volunteers are fundraising for the charity with their four-legged friends across Bristol
For Christmas 2024, they are holding a special raffle where nine lucky winners stand the chance to win a selection of booze and other goodies just in time for the holidays. Anyone can enter the raffle with tickets priced at £5.
A section on the BDAWG’s website has a list of dogs available for adoption. This list also includes details about each dog, like their age, a personality description, vaccine information and more.
Anyone keen on adopting from them, can simply fill out their online application form and wait to hear back.
