Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2018, day 18: Above & Beyond

By Bristol24/7  Monday Dec 17, 2018

Above & Beyond supports Bristol’s city centre hospitals, including the BRI, Bristol Eye Hospital, St Michael’s Hospital and Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Since 1974, the team has worked to raise funds to buy new equipment, supply televisions and iPads to alleviate boredom on the wards, refurbish buildings and provide a free shuttle bus so that staff, patients and their families can travel more easily to and from hospital.

Now, the charity works across four main areas:

Independent journalism
is needed now More than ever
Keep our city's journalism independent.
  • Creating welcoming environments
  • Providing state-of-the-art equipment
  • Supporting staff training and development
  • Funding innovative research

Despite budget worries and major challenges to meet targets, in the year that the NHS celebrated its 70th anniversary, Above & Beyond were determined to celebrate the tireless efforts of staff, as well as sharing stories from the patients who have benefitted from their expertise over the years.

A year of NHS70 celebration events have taken place in 2018, collecting stories and reminiscences from patients and staff past and present. This positive outlook is at the heart of the charity, the staff it supports and many people that it helps year upon year.
