Bristol24/7 is turning 10

By Meg Houghton-Gilmour  Wednesday Feb 14, 2024

Grab your glad rags Bristolians, Bristol24/7 is turning ten!

In March, our little local publication will have existed for a decade. That’s a whole decade of writing about Bristol’s news, culture, food, business and more online and in print, and just as long supporting our community through our social impact projects.

We are absolutely chuffed to be hitting this milestone and have big plans to celebrate the occasion with our members, readers and collaborators.

Independent journalism
is needed now More than ever
Keep our city's journalism independent.

Redcliffe & Temple Business Improvement District is delighted to be partnering with Bristol24/7 on the 10-year anniversary celebrations, supporting a truly independent local media outlet that’s synonymous with Bristol’s unique culture. Through this collaboration, they’re able to provide opportunities for their businesses to host events, and their community to access exclusive offers to the upcoming celebrations.

Here’s a roundup of the plans so far:

First up, we’re taking over Casa for an evening of time travel through some of the best Bristol restaurants from the last decade. We’ve rounded up some of the city’s best chefs to collaborate on an eight course tasting menu on Tuesday, March 5 from 7pm.

One of our proudest achievements at Bristol24/7 is our work experience programme, which runs almost every week all year round. We have hundreds of people come through our doors on work experience to spend the week reporting with us, some of whom now have careers in both local and national journalism.

The demand for our journalism training far exceeds the number of people we’re able to host. With that in mind, our editorial team are inviting anyone who is interested to pick the brains of Bristol24/7 and see behind the scenes for a day. On Monday, April 15, you’ll find our team holding an afternoon of panel discussions, Q&As, networking sessions and more at Watershed from 1pm to 6pm.

The itinerary of the day is as follows:

  • 1-2pm: Women in journalism panel discussion
  • 2-3pm: Pathways into journalism panel discussion
  • 3-4pm: Speed dating – spend five minutes with a journalist
  • 4-5pm: The future of independent journalism
  • 5-6pm: Q&A with special guest

Everyone is welcome to attend, and tickets can be reserved for free via Eventbrite. Tickets will be released in the coming weeks.

We also have plans to host an exhibition showcasing the last ten years of Bristol24/7 magazine covers for key stakeholders and collaborators and a celebration of up and coming Bristol music at The Fleece in April. Of course it wouldn’t be a Bristol24/7 celebration without a massive party, so keep your eyes peeled for more details of that in the coming months.

But that’s not all!

We have collaborated with three brilliant Bristol artists to produce some original artwork that will be going on the front covers of our tenth anniversary special magazine. We’re excited to be working with Jim’ll Paint It, Lucas Antics and Turbo Island.

We’ll also be selling a limited edition run of Bristol24/7 t-shirts featuring the original artwork, available to pre-order over the month of March.

And finally, we’re brewing a special tenth anniversary beer with our friends at Arbor Ales, which will be available to purchase at our events and in various pubs and bars across the city.

Bristol24/7 members will get priority access and discounts on all tickets and merchandise – join now for just £5 a month.
