#BristolCharityAdvent Day 3: Freewheelers
‘Riding for Life’ is the slogan of Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service, who provide a free out-of-hours motorcycle courier service to hospitals in Bristol and the South West.
The charity transport a variety of medical supplies and samples including blood, pathology and microbiology specimens, patient notes, X-rays, and breast milk.
The team of people who complete deliveries, service the bikes, raise funds and answer the phone at Freewheelers are all volunteers.
is needed now More than ever
The service exists to ensure that hospitals in the South West are not forced to use taxis or commercial couriers for medical deliveries.

In 2008, Freewheelers were given The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
The delivery service operates between 7pm and 7am from Monday to Thursday, and 24 hours at weekends and on Bank Holidays.
Freewheelers mainly undertake deliveries for the NHS, though they are occasionally able to make deliveries to private addresses, nursing homes, or medical professionals attending a patient’s home.
The charity is sharing the Christmas Cop Shop at The Galleries with the police and various other organisations throughout December, with one of the bikes on display.
