CST schools making music at Bristol Beacon

By Advertising Feature  Tuesday May 7, 2024

On 26th March pupils from across 9 Bristol primary and secondary schools gathered at the newly refurbished Bristol Beacon to perform as part of Cathedral Schools Trust (CST)’s annual Music Makers concert.

The concert brought together over 300 children from across the city, aged 8 to 18 to perform, sing and make music together. The programme opened with a specially commissioned fanfare from local composer, James Dorman, and included our Symphony Orchestra and Big Band accompanying massed singing items such as You Will Be Found. There was a performance of the finale from Ravi Shankar’s Symphony alongside steel pans, rock bands, the junior orchestra (CST Camerata), many choirs, a harp ensemble and samba band.

It was a joyous occasion and memorable experience for children to perform alongside peers from other primary and secondary schools. Key performances included all primary school students singing When I Grow Up by Tim Minchin accompanied by the CST Big Band and the CST Samba Band marching through the audience performing the ‘Samba Fiesta’.

Neil Blundell, CEO of Cathedral Schools Trust commented: “Our annual Trust concert is a wonderful opportunity to get children together from across our schools to make music and enjoy the experience of performing live in one of the city’s most prestigious venues. In a time where music education is in significant decline and children are becoming less and less likely to experience high quality collaborative music making, I am proud that we continue to provide these opportunities for our children.”

Andi Nicholls, Director of Music Specialism for the Trust said “Music is a universal language and a breaker of barriers. It brings us together in ways very few other things can and our Music Makers concert reminded us all how incredible the young people of Bristol are! When you invest in young people and invest in music, be prepared to be amazed!”
