Dial A Geek celebrates 18 years this September

By Advertising Feature  Wednesday Sep 11, 2024

Dial A Geek, a Managed IT Service Provider (MSP) based in Bedminster, celebrates its 18th birthday this September. Founded in September 2006 by Gildas Jones, Dial A Geek has helped over 1000 companies in Bristol and across the UK make the most out of their technology. The Geeks specialise in cyber security compliance and sustainable IT.

“What makes us different from other IT companies is commitment to our values”, says the company’s Technical Director, Yusra Shaeik. “As a National Cyber Security Centre’s Assured Provider, we offer a high-quality service at a great price with compliance at the centre of our offering. As a B Corp, we help protect the environment and we help our clients reach their environmental goals.”

Dial A Geek’s approach to cyber security sets them apart from competition. Rather than treating security as an additional feature, the MSP built their service around compliance. Their service, Protect & Grow, comes in three tiers – each aligned with the requirements for the different certifications: Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus, IASME Cyber Assurance, and ISO27001 (find out more).

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

“In the current digital climate, security should not be an optional add-on, but the focus of any IT service”, says Gildas Jones, Dial A Geek’s MD. “We wanted to create a service that helps our clients grow and reach their business goals – and compliance is increasingly important when it comes to working with big organisations or securing funding”.

Dial A Geek has come a long way since its beginnings in the kitchen of Gildas Jones.

The company has since moved away from ad-hoc support in favour of contractual support and away from the break-fix model in favour of proactive IT management. This model allows them to take more responsibility for the client’s security, to ensure the client’s productivity and continuity, and to help them grow long-term.

Appointing Yusra Shaeik as a Technical Director in 2023 has helped Dial A Geek refine their offering and reach multiple goals. They became a Cyber Essentials Plus and IASME Cyber Assurance certification body, as well as National Cyber Security Centre’s Assured Provider.

Dial A Geek has also looked at its environmental and social impact and goals. “This is something we have always deeply cared about and we wanted to demonstrate our commitment”, says Jones. “We finally became a certified B Corporation in 2023”.

The Geek’s hard work has been recognised at multiple occasions – most recently, the MSP was awarded Best Cyber Firm at SPARKies 2024.

The Geeks wanted to create something fun to spread the word about their 18th birthday. They asked themselves: ‘What if Dial A Geek were a person?’ Here’s what Dial A Geek could do today, if it was human:

Currently, Dial A Geek is offering a free 30-day trial of their services.
